Pravda o strachu // The truth about fear

It started about four years ago when I went for the first time as an aupair to England, and most of the people were asking me if I was afraid. And I wasn't. I think that I must have been quite naive back then but I really had not idea what could I be afraid of. Now I know it better. I know what can go wrong, and those might be just small things but very fundamental. And then there are the things that I don't expect. Those are even worse.

Here, they tell me that I am brave. Brave because I would go for a walk to the forest where they don't go or I walk to the city center even though it's far. I don't know if this really is brave, maybe it's just a curiosity, and the desire to make use of the free time I have and discover something new.

I have to admit that when I was coming here I was afraid and worried about how would it be here. When I was visiting Johanna, I was having a really great time here and finally understood all the people around me. When we have our nice comfortable spot we don't want to leave it because when we do we face a big risk. The new place might not be as comfortable, and we might have to change and adjust to the new environment and we don't like to change ourselves that much. And so the new place might not be as good as the one we have been living in. But on the other hand, we might gain a lot by taking this risk and going to the unknown! I personally think that we always gain something even if we have to make sacrifices. And the risk is worth it!
By overcoming my prejudice and bad ideas, worries that have been going around in my head, I gota great family and everyday I gain some new valuable experience and I learn a lot from them. I keep finding out that we are actually quite similar. But the same way that I was afraid coming here, I have worries about Peru. I am excited about it and at the same time worried about how would I cope with the new environment that is completely different. I don't know the situation, I can't imagine the life there and I don't know the people, and that is the reason why I might fear being there for two months. But I believe it will be an amazing experience and it will teach me more than I can imagine. And the more I learn to put away my prejudices, the less I fear Peru. And the more I pray, the more I am sure that it will be the right place for me to be those two months :)

However, I wanted to share with you two pearls of wisdom that I saw here during my first week in the States, that felt very fitting and are describing my situation very well.

Odvaha je strach, který se pomodlil.

Courage is fear that has said its prayers.

Nech ať je tvá víra silnější, než strach.

Let your faith be more than your fear

When I fear something, I pray. And then I remember that every challenge brings something good at the end. We always learn something because we learn from our mistakes. And I think that if we accept the challenges with good attitude and full commitment something good comes out of it. Not only for ourselves but also for people around us :)

  2. Georgie, jsi velká bojovnice a bojovníci mají odvážná srdce. :)
