HONG KONG DIARY, ostrov CHEUNG CHAU všemi smysly

On Thursday, Kallen and I visited one of the many islands of Hong Kong - Cheung Chau. It is one of the smaller islands. I would say that it is not that touristy as the other islands - Lamma and Lantau. However, it is special for not allowing cars on the islands, so everybody uses bikes. The only cars that you would find there are an ambulance, fire figters, police and one small van as a public transport for old people.

Ten byl pohodlný a zanedlouho jsme obě usnuly.

To get to the island, we had to take the underground to Central where we walked around and the got on the fast ferry. It was very comfortable and very soon Kallen and I fell asleep :)

Když jsme připluly na ostrůvek, začaly jsme shánět jídlo. Kallen to tam dobře zná, takže navrhla, abych ochutnala jídlo z ulice :) Vzala mě sem, tam, ještě jinam, všude jsme si koupily kus něčeho včetně pití a moučníku a šly jsme si to sníst na pláž.

When we arrived to the island, we started searching for food. Kallen knows the place quite well so she proposed that I should try some street food :) She took me here and there, bought something in each place including a drink and a dessert and we went to the beach. At one place I noticed that they were selling fresh iced mango dring. And as I love mango, I had to try it. And it was worth the money. The owner of the place was also very nice, he offered to take a picture of us and he also let me take a picture of him :)

Another thing that seemed very interesting were potato chips on a stick. It was actually one potato cut and put on the stick and then fried. Such a brilliant and tasty idea! :)

Měly jsme takový poklidný odpolední oběd a já bych vydržela sedět u moře celé dny.

We had quite a nice and calm time while eating and sitting at the sea. I could stay there all day. However, we wented to see more of the island so we started wondering throught the street. Kallen got me a mango dumpling to try, it was really interesting. The dough was very chewy, I have no idea how they do that. We watched the sunset, observed some local people and then got on a slow ferry, took some more pictures of the sunset and fell asleep again. We actually slept through most of the journey and I think we recovered some of our energy by that :)

From this ferry we just transferred to the Star Ferry that already has quite a long tradition in Hong Kong (see the video) and costs only 2 HKD. We got to the other side of Victoria Harbour and waited for the light show. It was supposed to be a spectacular light show on the skyscrapers on the other side but we were actually quite disappointed. It wasn't as good as we expected it to be as it was mentioned in almost every guide.

V té restauraci jsme dostaly lísteček, kde jsme si zaškrtly, jakou tu polévku chceme a co by v ní mělo být. Fuj.

Kallen then found a restaurant in the Open Rice app to have a soup. That was another interesting experience for me. The restaurant was quite small so they made us sit at the table next to strangers, which is quite normal here. Then we took a paper where we chose what we wanted to have in the soup and if it was to be very sour, spicy or other thing. What I found interesting was that you actually don't eat the liquid. You just eat the content of the soup - the noodles and the stuff the put into it. Kallen said the liquid is not healthy. Really interesting. Another thing is that Hong Kong (Chinese) people always eat hot meals. Even if the weather is hot! It was 32°C at 8pm.

Metrem a autobusem zpět jsme jely opět vyčerpané.

The way home was long, we were really tired. I didn't expect these days in the city would be so exhausitng!
Oh, and one more note. I don't know what it is but the skyscrapers are really fascinating! :)
